Nappies aren't the easiest thing to demonstrate on radio, but I had a red-hot go at it yesterday on ABC 666AM's Sunday morning program with Peter Casey. I was talking to Peter about the Bush Babies [1] seminar on Saturday 31 May: Happy Little Feet. Eilleen Eugenio, of Consumption Rebellion [2] blog fame, will talk about ways to reduce your baby's environmental and budget impact. She went an entire year without buying anything brand new, and learned some great new skills along the way. Come along to the seminar and pick up some tips on how to save on everything from food to nappies to toys to clothes to birthday & Christmas gifts.
One of the ways I cut costs is with cloth nappies, using an average 1L of water to wash a nappy instead of 3.5L of water to make a disposable. My oldest nappy was bought in 2004 for my first baby, and is still looking good on my third baby after more than 500 washes. It paid for itself after the 40th wash, so I've saved over $160 just with that one nappy!

If you're in nesting mode for a new baby, check out the bargains at our Ozebaby Outlet [3]. This is where we clear discontinued product lines or seconds stock, and you might find the occasional carrier cake on auction.
Carrier cakes are so much fun for me to make. Take a chocolate Bundleboo wrap sling [3], fill with funky BabyLegs legwarmers [3] and Bumwear nappies [3], and serve on a cake board for a useful new mum gift. Below is a Hug-A-Bub carrier cake I made a short while ago - looking forward to making up the Bundleboo cake on Saturday afternoon :)
