Children's Book Week Winners Announced
It's Children's Book Week from 21 to 27 August 2010, and the winners of the Book of the Year 2010 have been announced by the Children's Book Council of Australia. There's the return of some popular authors, and lots of new discoveries too. I was also pleased to see that CSIRO published Polar Eyes by Tanya Patrick, honoured as a runner-up in the Eve Pownall award, for an outstanding book documenting factual information. And Alison Lester, author of one of our favourite children's travel books, was also honoured as a runner-up in the Younger Readers category for Running With The Horses.
We love books at Brindabella Baby. I've spent today re-arranging the shop to showcase our selection of books by Canberra authors. We love Tania McCartney's picture books for their combination of learning about China and Hong Kong, with the combination of beautiful photography and cheeky cartoon illustration. Ingrid Jonach's picture book is the perfect story for a family of hoarders, and uses language that will be familiar to young Australian readers. Rhodanthe Lipsett's No 'One Right Way' empowers new parents to trust their instincts and listen to their baby, while David Vernon's books are just the thing for parents-to-be wanting to know what birth will really be like.
