Meet the Maker Interview with Amanda - Mandy Mac Nappies

In the third Meet the Maker interview, we find out how Amanda of Mandy Mac Nappies is building Australia's best value modern cloth nappy brand, while also being a devoted mother of three. You'll find Mandy Mac one-size hemp nappies - in natural hemp or a range of bright colours - in our Nappies section.

Describe your family.
Mother to the precocious three year old Lydia, the super-cuddly almost two year old Henry and newborn baby Abraham. Wife to Superhusband Ty, who is the most wonderful man on Earth, even if he’s a Collingwood supporter.

What inspired you to become a work-at-home-mum (WAHM)?
I wanted to send more time with my little ones, but I felt it was also important to me to be able to contribute back to society – so this was the perfect solution.

How do you balance your business and family commitments?
I plan a lot of activities outside the house – so that all my attention is focused on the children when we are out. I also try to do the majority of my work in the evenings – which leaves me pretty tired – I wish I’d worked out the perfect solution, but it hasn’t happened yet.

What dreams do you have for your business?
Oh, goodness – I have hundreds of dreams. I want to expand my product range to covers, all-in-ones, bamboo nappies, flats. I also want to branch out to the US and European markets. I truly believe that reusable nappies are the way of the future. I believe in saving the environment, and I believe that I can assist in that by providing good quality, great value nappies – so although I’m limited by capital in the short term, my dreams are very much alive.

What is one thing you cannot do without as a WAHM?
The support of my husband. He listens to my dreams, helps me clarify them, he was the one who told me to stop sewing nappies every night and look into outsourcing – to research whether cloth nappies could be a viable business idea, he packed my orders and mailed them when I was too pregnant to be carrying big boxes and most importantly he’s the one who hugs me at the end of the day.
